Hi..Anyone know the contact number for Hotel Sky Green in Ella? or has anyone stayed there? :) I couldn't find any number for it on the web.

knewma - not sure about the Hotel Sky Green however if staying in Ella try out Rawana. its quite cheap, clean, very friendly but the main reason to stay here is for the food.. they have some of the best curry you will try in Sri Lanka... make sure you have the garlic curry.

Idleflow-RE Ravana, do you remember the price (for a single) and how about location, is the place nice to hang out outside, veranda, big yard, garden, nice view? Thanx and take care

The rooms were pretty basic, bathroom, fan, mosq. net... no A/C but very clean. The owners are great, each room on the top floor has a balcony which faces the main hill area - the nicer view is side on to the balcony so you don't get the full view that you would want.. a single from memory should cost you around 1000-1500 rupee - inc. breakfast.
There is also a large restaurant area but no yard.

If you're wanting a nicer view with a yard then right next door there is the Ella Motel which is around 4000 rupee, personally i found rawana to be better. It's a more simple place but the food is what really makes this place worth the stay.

Idleflow. Thanx a lot for your reply. 4000 is way above my budget limit so I'll probably stick to the place you reccommended.Accomodationwise my budget will be about 10USD a night. One question regarding Ella. Is it easy to rent a motorbike there and what are the prices for rental.? Any responses deeply appreciated.Jan

Thanks for the replies.

idleflow - thanks for the tip on the food :) will definitely go there, since we want to try out all the eateries. Did u do go watch the Rawana Ella falls?

janske - you might want to look at Ella Highest Inn too if you are going for that budget.. I checked their prices for December and it was Rs1000 for RO, but they'd only be open til Dec 19th or so..I haven't been there but seen good reviews. When are you planning to go to Ella?

cheers

Knewma- I'll be in Ella at the beginning of Feb(I start my trip 24 Jan, about 6 weeks total). Do you know if it's possible to rent a motorbike in Ella and for example to ride to Haputale(I hope I got the name right) or /and to rent it in Haputale and what are the prices? Thanx Jan

i am at the Rawana right now and a nice clean twin/double with mosquito net is 1500 with balcony or 1000 without - food is excellent as is the view of the gap/rock - but be ready for the 69 steps up to see the view. discounts given for longer stays

Hi Blossom. Can't wait to be there. One question. Can you rent a motobike there(if not thereHaputale?) and how much are they? Thanx Jan

Hi Janski,
Just browsing through back posts.. I missed a lot as I've not long returned from a trip to Cuba. Given the new format of the site I'm struggling to catch up. Not quite as easy and straight forward as the last layout.

Anyway, regarding your query about hiring a motor bike... Ella is just a sleepy , slow life, village. I love the place but no motor bike hire there. Similarly with Haputale, a bustling, working , mountain town set up for locals, I've never seen any bike hire facilities there and am pretty sure that there arn't any. Most of the bike hire places I've come across are on the coast in the busier towns. Places such as Hikkaduwa.
When you land,, if you're going to stay somewhere nearby for the first night, then I'd expect it to be Negombo.
In Negombo, there's a guest house named " The Silver Sands", 229 Lewis Place. Silver Sands is set back off the road a little, so you have to look for the sign, almost next door is a motor bike hire shop. I havn't used one of their bikes but at a casual glance they look to be in good shape.
I know it's not where you wanna be but as they say,, if the mountain won't come to Mohamed,, !.
When you're in Haputale, try the walk up to Liptons seat.. If you have a bike, you can ride up if you want to. A stone track all the way through the tea plantations. Amazing views from the top.
Rod.

Thanx Rod for your info. Hope you enjoyed your travel in Cuba. Motorbikes or not I'll definiately spend some time in Ella, Haputale and couple other places in the area before heading South. When are you heading back to SL? Take care. Jan

Hi Jan,
Thanks for asking,, I loved Cuba..I don't find the food or the countryside anything like as intrigueing as in Sri Lanka but as in Lanka the local people are extremely friendly and Thats the main ingredient to me .
I did spend a lot of time horse riding through forests which I really enjoyed. A long time since I spent much time on a horse but was pleased that I stood up to it pretty well.
I'm sure you'll love the area around haputale and Ella with or without a bike . Transport around there is good as the main rail line runs between the two places and there are also plenty of buses.
I also enjoy the area around Badulla, the town right at the end of the mountain railway. Lots of forested mountains to wander around and some scenic rivers and water falls.
Don't know when my next trip will be. Probably, at the latest, around May or June but I'll be scouring the internet in the new year for any special offers which may be going. In June of this year i found one with 1st choice ,, 2 weeks B&B and flights from and to the Uk all for a total of £250.. If another like that appears I'll be ready to go .
Rod.
