Anyone in La Habana at this moment?

Hola!

I'm Jelmer, a Dutch student, and doing my internship at this moment at the Cuban Neuroscience Center in Playa, La Habana. In Vedado I live in a casa particular, at calle L, between 17 and 19.

The days are long here, but the country is beautiful. But because I'm not very fluent in Spanish, it's hard to communicate, and as my colleagues here live far out of the center, I don't have much to do at the nights and in the weekends.

So, is there anyone reading this forum in La Habana at this moment, and staying for a while? If yes, we could meet up and do some sightseeing or have a drink.

Hi Jelmer,

Have you considered moving to Centro? You're in suburbia now - perhaps a move to a more interesting place will help you out. Sounds like your commute is already long, maybe by moving you'll only add a few minutes more to your commute to Playa, but will have more of a social life.

You can PM me if you want the name of some casas where there are young people around and who will be happy to practice their English.

Her reply was very straightforward. She finds it remarkable (as I do) that anyone could complain about it being difficult to meet people in Havana.

In fact, I'm having a hard time thinking of any place on earth where it's easier to do so.

Thanks Terry, but I understood the intention of the message. I was just addressing to the "I mean..." part. Well, nevermind...

If it's that easy to meet people here, maybe it's just a combination of not knowing where to look, long working hours, another culture and not being as outgoing as I should be.

Get off the crappy Internet connection, and go for a walk down Obispo Street. Lots of bars to meet foreigners, and Cubans who speak English.

I am going to be in Havana from around July 19 to September 2nd for the first time, on my own for three weeks of it. I am an 18 soon to be 19 year old student.
