Anybody in Arusha Now?

Country forums / Africa / Tanzania

It's been the strangest thing.... I landed in Dar on the 1st, went to Zanzibar, and now I'm in Arusha, and the only place I've seen other travelers was at the beach in Paje. Stonetown was nearly clear of travellers, and the YWCA in Dar.... it felt as if I had the entire HUGE place to myself.

I'm traveling solo and want to know if anyone is in Arusha, and if so, where are you all hiding?? If anyone wants to meet up, shoot me a PM. I'm looking to do a safari and some day activities here, and then am still trying to plan whats next. ... Holler if you're out there!

Best,
Kelli

If you're in Arusha try going to Arusha Backpackers hostel. If you don't find other traveller's there then something crazy really is going on! Also, try hanging out in McMoody's restaurant. There are generally so many tourists in Arusha it's hard to avoid them!

Good luck!
(sorry i'm not actually in Arusha, I wish I was though!)

Kelli,

We are here! But we are staying for tonight in AICC hospital in Old Moshi Rd., because my girlfriend had a bad fever yesterday (she's ok now, thanks)

Wanna team up with two nice chileans for a budget safari? Ideally 1 day in Ngorongoron and 1/2 days in Serengeti.

or the hospital...

Cheers!

The rooms are very small at Arusha Backpackers, but they served a purpose for short stays and meeting fellow travellers. However, to see the Real Arusha you have to meet the locals. So thats what we did.

We met up with 2 local brothers - Mahiza (26) and Makwaya (28) through couchsurfing.
And stayed at their home - Cheka House (Laugher house) for over 3 weeks. And had a double room each to ourselves.

They took us wherever we wanted to go - restaurants, shopping and night clubs. Organised any tours we wanted, which were cheaper than the tour companies we visited before.
But the good thing about having a local as a friend is that it's much safer walking around and using the a dala dala's, especially at night. It was great! And they made us feel like part of the family.

If you need assistance in any way, give them a call. Im sure they could meet up for chat or coffee at McMoody's.
