Ananiso Canyon - An undiscovered beauty South of CuscoCountry forums / South America / Peru
While in Cusco I was looking for a different tour so I could say "hey I really got to know something that most travelers haven't" so after searching online for a while I found a tour of exploorperu (peruvian travel company) to the Ananiso Canyon online. The pictures already got me interested as I have visited both the Bryce- and the Grand Canyon in the States and loved them. The tour itself started at 5:00 am in Cusco (manageable time considering some of the tours leave at 2:30/3:00 am) and then we were heading South for around 3 hours. Make sure you get aclimitated before because you'll be up at aprox. 4200m. The local guide was great because he originally comes from that region so he knew it (and the community) very well.
Sounds interesting, I've never heard of this canyon before. How much did you pay for it? Was it a private or a group tour? | 1

I paid USD 95 for the tour. However, there“s a package that includes Humantay Lake, The Ananiso Canyon and the Rainbow Mountain. The price of this package is around USD 20 lower than buying separtely each activity. | 3

Nice, thanks for the info! Just sent them a mail :) Think I'll do the tour in April with my wife. Cheers! | 5
I just saw the video, looks amazing. How is the altitude problem over there, as I read quite a lot of problems with the height and the treks, especially the rainbow mountain trek? | 6
I had no problem at all (the ananiso canyon tour and the rainbow mountain tour have similar altitude and trekking time with the travel agency i booked). However, the guide had a first-aid kit in case someone had a problem. The group had no problem. I recommend buying "Sorochi pills" from any pharmacy in Lima or Cusco. They are so cheap (1.5-2 soles each pill) you take it about an hour before you go and every 8 hrs. I met a guy from Australia who took them and had no problem with altitude. | 7
