Can anyone recommend a cheap hostel in Alishan with a double room which offers online booking? If online booking is not available, is it easy enough to find a room there in December? Do you recommend going there in December in the first place?

Are there frequent bus trips from Alishan to Chiayi HSR Station?

Alishan is closed at the moment because of road damage from typhoon Morakot. They say small buses will be going up next week but these are tour buses and not public buses.

As Wallami said the road is being repaired. It is likely to start reopening in the next few weeks. Perhaps call the Tourism Bureau's hotline for advice about travelling to Alishan. The number is 0800 011 765.

Maybe. But you might also only be able to travel up with groups.

Any particular reason for Alishan?
