Hi how much is it to the airport form the city? will probably be leaving from the backpacker area
Taxi or bus?
i am travelling alone

A few weeks ago I took the airport bus #152 from the terminal at Ben Thanh market for 3000 VND (US 18 cents). The bus used to pass De Tham St., but now I am told you must go to the terminal at Ben Thanh market to catch it.
If you decide to take a taxi from the backpacker area it will cost you at least $5, and you don't really save much time by taking the taxi rather than the bus.

An off-duty employee at STA Travel (backpacker area) took me to the airport on his motorbike at 10:30 PM (2230) for 50,000 dong.

#2 you got ripped off. It should only have cost you 45,000 dong.

I was being sarcastic. At any rate, for 60-70,000 you could get a taxi, making luggage transport easier than on a xe om.

A lot more fun/ exciting on the scooter, but I must agree, probably not the best option if you have a lot of luggage. However, I was impressed just how much they CAN carry; of course it helps having a driver who knows what he's doing.

The taxi counter in the airport was charging $5 last month.
