air new zealand or qantas?

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / New Zealand

i'm flying to new zealand on a whv and i was wondering if anyone had any recomendations. i'll be flying out of san francisco or los angeles and air new zealand seems cheaper. agree? i plan to travel with a guitar so would one be more or less accomadating than another?

also, do i need proof of onward travel when i get there with my working holiday visa? if i get a one way ticket, will they not let me in?

Thanks!

I'd go with whoever is cheapest LL, sorry I have no idea what the immigration folk will think of a one way ticket since I have a kiwi passport. If it is any help, Qantas recently bagged a "worst airline" award from Australia...

Both airlines are fine, go with the best deal you can get.

If you go on Air NZ on a 747 you'll have an extra 3 inches of leg room in economy than on Qantas. That makes a huge difference for me!.

I've just checked the NZ Immigration website and it states for a USA Working Holiday scheme that you need to

"hold a return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket

You are required to hold sufficient funds for the duration of your visit and for the purchase of an outward ticket from New Zealand. Such evidence may be requested on arrival at the border."

You just need a bank statement to prove that you can afford to live in NZ and afford to buy a return ticket when you leave.

Stick with the cheapest one however air NZ because their planes are more comfortable. to me, than qantas.
Plus Air NZ have better looking flight attendents...hahahha...joking.

Air New Zealand has great leg room, pretty good food, and the 777s have individual seatback screens with a wide choice of entertainment.

They are both safe, reliable fine airlines.

Air NZ are usually much cheaper and unless you get some benefit from frequent flyer points, you might as well go with the best deal.
