Afternoon Transportation: Alajuela-->La Fortuna

My travel partner and I are staying a night in Alajuela, then planning to visit Poas Volcano in the morning. We were hoping to find some non-taxi transportation from Alajuela to La Fortuna in the afternoon so we can have time at Poas in the morning. The only buses/shuttles I can find leave Alajuela in the morning--does anyone know of any leaving in the afternoon?

How are you getting to Poas? You can take a bus but it is not ideal. There is only one bus from Alajuela to Poas (I believe at 9 am). We took it and arrived in Poas at 10:30 am, I believe. That is quite late. The earlier the better as clouds roll in quickly. It was very clouded when we were there but we got lucky and the clouds lifted for 15 minutes or so while we were at the viewpoint. There is only one bus back at 2:30 pm so you would not be back in Alajuela till 4 pm.

From Alajuela you can take a bus to Ciudad Quesada (San Carlos). There change buses to get to La Fortuna. I believe there are hourly buses:

We were planning on splurging on a taxi to Poas so we can get there early before the clouds. I didn't know there was an hourly bus from Alajuela to Ciudad Quesada! That'll help a lot. Thank you!
