Advice on accomodation in Tibet

Country forums / North-East Asia / Tibet

Will be travelling in Tibet this early October and my trip will involve the Lhasa to Nepal border route. My questions is, is it fairly easy to obtain accomodation (ie budget to moderate) upon arrival at the places along the Lhasa to Nepal route (ie which includes Lhasa, Shigatse, Lhatse, near EBC and Tingri) without making reservations? Any advice or recommendations for places to stay would be most appreciated.

Note : Most of the accomodation I have looked up in the LP have no e-mail/website contact. I do not speak Mandarin/Tibetan hence, making a phone call would be out of the question.

Hope to hear from you soon and thanks in advance.

Happy travels!

The last week of October is unofficially the last week of the high season for tourism in Tibet, though many could argue that the low season is actually the best time to travel to Tibet. In Lhasa there will probably be quite a few tourists around so it might be a good idea to have arrangements made in advance. Along the Friendship Highway from Lhasa to the Nepal border you shouldn't have any problems finding a place on arrival. The current LP Tibet guidebook does a good job of listing hotels for each of the places along the route you will be traveling.

early arrangement is suggested.
But if you only need a dorm bed in lhasa, then you can get it when arrival. Out of lhasa is not easy to get a hotel in early Oct.
