3-any link for cheap accommodation in Amman ?

4-transportation options to Petra from Amman?
5-transportation options to Damascus from Amman?

I can recommend a great Taxi driver called Mohammad Sa'adat who runs Waled Taxis just outside Petra although he will cover the whole of Jordan - no problem picking you up from Amman or Aqaba airports. It's about 80JD from Amman to Petra. He seems to know most of the population of Jordan. He will look out places of interest that you might not think of. He took us to some of the shops which the Bedouin use and had his friends, the shopkeepers show us around. He even took us to his home to meet the family and invited us to dinner while we were in Petra. You can contact him on his mobile 00962 795 439075 or 00962 777 416772.

If you want to see the north of Jordan - Jerash, Umm Qais, Ajlun, Desert Palaces etc I can recommend a driver based in Amman called Maher Saad on 00962 797 070786. You can contact him on msaad1963@yahoo.com. Maher is a great guy. He took us all around the north and took us down to Madaba with a detour to see Mount Nebo and Bethany. He routinely covers all of Jordan so he'd be a good bet for Amman to Petra as well.

If you need a hotel for Amman I would recommend consider staying a few miles south at Madaba - the Madaba Mosaic Hotel, which is as close to the airport as the Amman hotels, has a lot more character and is a third of the price. It's only 2 star but the service is outstanding - see Trip Advisor references and the ratings on Bookings .com. We stayed at a so called 5 star hotel in Amman, which cost three times the Mosaic - I'd choose the latter every time.

Hope that this is of some use.

See hostelworld.com for cheap accomodation, and most budget places in Amman can get arrange transport all over Jordan, if you decide to stay in Madaba, the Mariam Hotel has a busservice to Petra. Damascus to Amman goes by service taxi, have a look at http://www.jordanjubilee.com/ to find some more specific information.
