accomadation addis ababa

Country forums / Africa / Ethiopia

I'm looking for a room in Addis Ababa, would like to find something centrally located to organize northern tour. Are there any recomendations on reasonably priced hostels/hotels and tour operators? thank-you.

I just came from a trip to Ethiopia and i stayed half of my time in Addis. Depending on how many days you are staying some hotels would give you discount. I stayed at Mimosa Guest House and it feels like home. I was paying 40 USD/night. The only prob. is they dont sell alcohol but it is 2 min walk to local pubs. I also had the option of staying at a 20 USD/night place which was also nice but prefered mimosa. I organized my hotel and tour with Daez Tour (ezanat@hotmail.com)and they were reasonably priced and very professional. If you have time i would suggest you do the trip by driving.

You didn't list a budget range ... I stayed at the Ras Hotel, which starts at ~$13 and goes up from there. All rooms have private baths (hot water was not always available ... evenings were the best time for hot showers) and its pretty quiet. It has all the basics (a very popular western restaurant with patio, an Ethiopian food-only restaurant, internet cafe, luggage storage (free!)) and also has the office of Abeba Tours, which I (and others) recommend.

I have stayed in various places in Addis - but the ones in the centre have been reasonable without being particularly worth recommending. I would just say that at 40 dollars a night the Mimosa sounds expensive unless it is really top class - but you know your budget and your wants.
All of us with good Ethiopian travel experiences have our favourite agents/guides - mine is Alex Abebe - alebachew_2005@yahoo.com - who has taken me trekking in the Simiens, and arranged me a couple of tours around the north. Everything went smoothly, the price was reasonable, and he's a great guy. Strongly recommended.
