A nice room for $50 US in Mendoza?

Country forums / South America / Chile

My friend and I will be spending 2 nights in Mendoza in late September visiting wineries on an organised tour.

As we're on a budget, we are looking at spending a maximum of $50 per night for accommodation.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where we should stay? Preferably somewhere near the 'action', restaurants, cafe's etc. We would love somewhere we can relax on a balcony etc have a wine and soak up the atmosphere.

Many thanks in advance!!

It would be better to post your question in branch Argentina -> Mendoza is in Argentina and not in Chile.....

Mendoza appears to be really cheap (at least compared to Chile). My wife was there in May with a friend, and they paid about CHP 12,000 (USD 25 or so) for a two-bed room in the centre. No reservation necessary, you'll get offers at the bus station once you arrive. Eating out is also extremely inexpensive, about CHP 6000 for an all-you-can-eat buffet which, being Argentina, includes steaks. Mendoza is supposed to be very pleasant , friendly and safe. The bus trip from Santiago takes about 7 hours depending on traffic (the border crossing is quite slow), so you should leave early to have time to look around in Mendoza.
