Can you give suggestions for this part of the trip? 8 June - arrive Tokyo 18:00 Narita, sleep Tokyo
OP are standing many topics one after another here but the contents of his new topics =questions are almost the same to the ones before and if OP maintain and care them well , OP can still use those topics longer than now but easily abondon them soon! We Japanese don't like a man who lack manner and courtesy because Japan is a country of SAMURAI spilit and we still think manner and courtesy and respecting to other ones are important. | 1
Thank you so much for the reply jp_geckozy! The new topics, as you can notice, have been adjusted taking in consideration the replies I received on my earlier posts. These last posts are with my final itineraries after replies I got here and from other travellers in person. Again, thank you for taking the time to reply :) | 2
I would be really happy if you could answer my questions: | 3
Beautiful views of Mount Fuji are weather dependent and never guaranteed. Being close to it should increase your chances. A popular are, close to Mount Fuji is the Five Lakes Area and the main transport/accommodation hub there is Kawaguchiko. There are some mountains around here where you could go for walks/hikes, but I am not aware of any particularly scenic hike in the area. You can travel between Five Lakes/Kawaguchiko and Hakone and it is explained here: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5206.html?aFROM=5200_6900 or here: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6905.html?aFROM=5200_6900 If you do the loop Tokyo-Five Lakes-Hakone-Tokyo, getting a Fuji Hakone Pass could make sense. On the other hand you also have convenient direct bus connections between Five Lakes and Tokyo and could go there as a day trip and likewise visit Hakone as day trip from/to Tokyo. | 4
Thank you so so much bamse! I’ll check the links, check the pass and decide for day trips or loop :) One more question - for Nikko I always need to go back to Tokyo and go from there, right? | 5
From Nikko to where? The most common approach is indeed via Tokyo and if you are going from Nikko to anywhere east of Tokyo (e.g. to Hakone, Nagoya, Kyoto....), you are going to pass through Tokyo. Even if you are heading into the Japanese Alps, you are likely going to pass through Tokyo (or suburbs of Tokyo). Another fast approach goes via Utsunomiya which is on the main shinkansen line which could take you north towards Sendai and beyond. In addition to these there are at least two other options, slow backroad kind of approaches:
Either of these only makes sense if you have plenty of time and/or something to do in the area they lead to/from. | 6
thank you thank you! i am considering skipping Hakone to spend more time relaxing in Nikko. but let's see what happens when i'm there :) | 7
