43 day trip June - August

Hi all,
I am in need of some advice. My friend and I are planning a summer backpacking trip. We are coming for the U.S and will begin in Budapest for a 43 day trip.

Budapest -- June 20-25
Austria -- Vienna 3 days Salzburg 3 days
Switzerland -- Lucerne July 2-7
Munich -- July 7 -9
*This is booked with airbnb's and hostels.

Here is where I am stuck.... I am thinking... Munich to Zagreb Croatia, July 9-12
then to Pula 12-17 then ferry to Italy July 17-25.
25th fly to Greece until the 30th.
Final stop Barcelona, July 31 and leave to U.S. on August 3.

Or forget Croatia this time and just explore Italy from the 12- 25 with day trips and what not.
Then head to Greece and end in Barcelona.

I also am struggling with booking stuff in advance due to the busy time of summer or to go just go with it?

Any suggestions?

I would drop Croatia..you have more than enough already to fill your time.

On the booking...depends.If you want to stay in hostels or cheap hotels,and you are not so fussy about it being the 'best' in town,no need to book in advance.

Leave it open and decide as you go,or a day or two before.Its a good idea to have contact details for a few possibilities in each place you might visit and then call/text/email them and see if there is space (that saves you time wandering around).

If you are definitely going to Barcelona and flying from there,you might as well book that.And any flights will cost considerably less if you book them in advance.

thank you! Any suggestions on what Greek Island to visit. We are looking for nice beaches and peaceful, not big into the party scene.

Maybe post this question on the Greece page...along with information on where you might fly to Greece from,how many days you might have in Greece and where you will go after.

There are lots of possibilities there and some good local posters on that branch...
