4 days, from Kampala to Addis

Hi,

I found out I'm going to be in Uganda for a few weeks in May for a fellowship. I can extend the trip by a few days, and I thought I might like to try and reach Ethiopia. Can someone say if they think this is a good idea or not?

I figure a Kampal-Addis flight shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of, but then I wonder if I will be able to see a few decent sights in 2 or 3 days. I notice that the big sights like Lalibela and Aksum are a distance away from Addis.

A search through the LP threads shows how someone had done a trip like this in a week, but it was tight. That suggests it might be possible for me.

it depends on your budget!
with some inland-flights, you could be able to do lalibela or aksum (or bahir dar / gondar...). if you're travelling by bus, such trips are rather impossible.
instead of this, you could visit addis and catch a glimpse of ethiopia by doing some nice day trips to the south or north-west of addis...

I would not recommend it. You are looking at an almost $500 flight to start with. Then you would need additional flights as mentioned by #1. If you have not explored Uganda yet, I would spend your time there. Murchison Falls is one of my favorite places and there are a few groups that do three day trips there.

Yeh, I agree with Brian.
if you cant get 3 weeks minimum to visit Ethiopia then you may as well stay where you are.
A round trip flying and booking flights from addis, axum Lalabela and back to Addis will eat up your week and you may miss your connecting flight at the end.

Enjoy the virtues of Uganda and have a nice time there.

Like all said, dont do it! To go to Ethiopia's nice places from Kampala, you easily loose a full day flying (Entebbe - Nairobi - Addis - North of EThiopia) and way more than 500 USD (count at least 800 USD round trip).

For 3-4 days, not worth it.

My employer's American though, so it's unlikely I'll be able to get 3 weeks any time!

What would y'all say is the minimum time needed for Ethiopia?

Three weeks absolute minimum for the northern circuit and at least another week if you go to the omo region.
