2010 Footprint Syria guidebookCountry forums / Middle East / Syria
Is there anyone here who's used the new Footprint Syria travel guidebook and would like to comment on its pluses and minuses? I'd be particularly interested in reading about comparisons between it and the current LP Syria & Lebanon travel guidebook. Is one notably stronger or weaker than the other? Thanks.
You could get by quite easily with either one if it's your first visit and you're not going anywhere too off the beaten track. As for strong points, the Footprint is much more up-to-date, covers a ton of cities/regions which the LP doesn't, has really good/detailed information if you're planning to self-drive, and is much stronger on historical and background information. However, the LP has much better maps than the Footprint, and it's also stronger on hotel, cafe and restaurant listings and recommendations than the Footprint. The Footprint is nice and small, its complements the LP rather nicely - I'd probably get both. | 1
That's excellent news : a new Footprint guide for Syria - very long overdue since it's first and at my knowledge so far only edition, published in 2001... If the new guide reaches the same standards, this would be - in my humble opinion - the best value for ( English ) guidebooks for Syria. LP's 2008 edition is very poor, as was the 2004 guide, compared with the first edition published in 2001 - larger and much better covering only Syria, whereas now Syria and Lebanon are squeezed in one book of about the same size... I'm curious for find the new Footprint guidebook ! | 2
I have it and think it's fab - not many colour pics but great info and really detailed. | 3
