2 days to get from Delhi to Jaipur, via Agra

Hi- my partner and I are visiting India in November, arriving mid-morning on a Friday, and have to be in Jaipur mid/late afternoon on the Sunday. We're wondering how best to make the most of the time we have, and how easy it is to book a tour/driver that doesn't require the trip to finish the same place as the start.
We're thinking we should view Delhi on the Friday then head to Agra at night, to be ready to see the Taj Mahal Saturday morning, followed by heading to Jaipur, via the Fatehpur Sikri. This would give us the evening/ Sunday morning to explore Jaipur.
Would we be best to hire a driver, or maybe get a train to Agra and hire a driver for only Agra to Jaipur? It's a bit rushed, but cannot be helped, and I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to see the Taj Mahal otherwise!

In an ideal world you do not travel at night on Indian rural (inter-city) roads - not even the Yamuna Expressway. So, train to Agra. In Agra you can hire a car+driver through your hotel for your trip to Jaipur.

There are various trains to take you to Agra in the evening. Try for an express train, which will get you to Agra in around 2.5 hours. If you stay the first night in Delhi, the most famous express train is the Shatabdi Express, leaving at 6am from New Delhi terminal and taking only 2 hours to Agra.

Are you not able to see the Taj after your visit to Jaipur ????

If its a 3 days trip, the best way would be to either hire a Self Driven car or a Rented Car with a driver who will charge for a day with a cap of 8hrs or 80 kms. zoomcar.com or savaari.com are couple of websites you can check to see what is best fit for you. Delhi-Agra-Jaipur via car will be the efficient way for travelling considering the time you have.

Safety. Sanity.

There is no street lighting. The roads are busy, and carry every form of traffic - beasts, pedestrians, cyclists, auto-rickshaws. None of these have lights. Cars, buses and trucks of variable speed, variable lanes, variable sides of the road and high beam. Breakdown sites do not have reflective saftey triangles, but a few rocks or bricks to mark the area.

If there is a choice, you don't travel at night on the roads. I've done it out of necessity - under no circumstances do I recommend it.
