10 days- Where should we go?Interest forums / Travel on a shoestring
Budget: $3500 ....$2000 total for 2 adult airfare, and $1500 for 10 days destination expenses Excluding the above places and considering the limited time, where in the world should we go? We're both young and like outdoorsy adventures and learning new cultures. Thanks for your suggestions!
Where are you flying from and what passport do you have? | 1
Vital question above! | 2
sounds like a Thailand / Cambodia / Vietnam / Philippines / Laos / Indonesia budget to me. Maybe an African destination, depends where the OP is flying from. Sri Lanka ?? | 3
good point guys- departing from LAX - US passports... we are hoping to figure this out by tomorrow and book ASAP :D | 4
LAX hey !!!! Stretch your budget a bit and you might do somewhere on east coast Australia.. New Zealand, maybe. | 5
Peru or Bolivia ?...don't know flight prices from LA to there though. If not,SE Asia as suggested above...... | 6
You could do Lima, Peru for about $1,100 (flight). Visit Machu Picchu. You should be able to find Bangkok for under $1,400. But it's a long flight and jet lag's a bitch. Tokyo is possible for $1,100. Heading south you won't be effected by the Tsunami damage or Nuclear issues. And Japan could certainly use the tourism right now. | 7
Or Hongkong? It does not seem exactly cheap but there are cheap and clean (though small) hostels/hotels in the main districts to be had. I'm going there in 2 days time and spent ~$200 for a private ensuite for 2 for 4 nights. Food can be had for cheap and the shopping is good. Attractions are decent, less manufactured than that of Singapore (I'm Singaporean) which is always great. Sights are wonderful, it's awesome getting lost in the streets of Hongkong. I lost my way once and came across this really great barbequed meat shop that I have not stopped thinking about since. Alternatively, the SEA options sound good to me. | 8
Well you could do China or Southeast Asia. Have you been to Bali, Java or Sumatra? You could also do Vietnam or Thailand. Also, I know from LAX you could get cheap flights to Mexico City. I know it's an odd destination, but there's so much to do there and around the city with simple day trips. With a little looking into these destinations you could definitely fit your budget. | 9
Outdoorsy adventures and learning new cultures in 10 days? Hawaii surfing trip or Alaska hiking trip. Though I am certain you can do both in either place. | 10
Thailand, China, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam. Some of those might be more expensive to get to, but you would save on costs once you're there. $150/day would be more than enough for two people in most of SE Asia. | 11
Brazil would be a great choice! | 12
Central or South America would make more sense, no jet lag and less travel time. Asia is too far for 10 days, by the time you get there you will only have one week, not worth it. Yes do SEAsia or China in a week, have these people actually been to these places? | 13
Mexico - Chiapas ( San Cristobal de Las Casas, Palenque). Archeological sites, echo tourism, food, music, color, etc.... Oaxaca is an all time favorite as well or you may consider Guadalajara , Guanajuato and Morelia also in Mexico. Remember that the violence is in the north of the country, Juarez and Monterey. Even Tijuana is calm . I drive through Tijuana on my way to Ensenada and it's a breeze on the toll road. Enjoy! | 14
