1 week sailing around dubrovnik

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Croatia

hi, boyfriend & i are going to croatia & bosnia from may 1st to 12th, planning to fly to dubrovnik, spend a few days sailing around the islands, then bus to mostar, on to sarajevo and back home.

we are looking for a sailing trip and hope some of you can recommend a good company to go with. it should be departing from and returning to dubrovnik, 5-7 days (i have the impression most are 7-day trips departing saturdays, that's also ok if that's the case), taking us around the islands - not 100% time on the boat, but also walking around the islands a bit every day or so. we are not looking at chartering a boat, but joining a tour with a small group - we are 30 years old if that matters. finally, not looking for a big cruise boat, my boyfriend likes sailing (although he doesn't have a licence) so it should be a sailing boat and if they would let him play with the sails a bit, even better.

i've found this company on the internet which sounds pretty much like what we are looking for (apart from the departure/arrival to split) :http://www.sail-croatia.com/index.php/content/view/29/82/, just wondering if anyone can recommend any other company - these ones are by the way uk-based, so i am sure there's cheaper to be found...

thanks a lot & happy travels!

thanks for your replies! do you know if anyone organises trips with smaller boats? (max 10 people on board). i guess if you want a small boat then you don't join a cruise but you rent your own boat and a skipper/crew, but there's only the 2 of us so we can't fill a whole small boat (or pay for all it between the 2 of us). thanks!

Hi,
I've done this trip several times -as has my son and friends (age 28). We used Katarina Line which offered a great vacation. However, at that time of year, the cost is a little cheaper and many of the tourists onboard were older and since it was cheaper, they were from other Eastern European Countries. During July/August, my son (and my other kids) took the same line but the tourists were younger, mostly from Australia, the UK, New Zealand, etc. They had a ball!
The boats look like old pirate ships with about 22 to 30 passengers. Breakfast is typical for the country (not really great - but manageable), Lunch is always FABULOUS!!
Each afternoon, the boat docks at a different island and you have plenty of opportunity to explore - all is within walking distance. Dinner is on your own. This is the most wonderful way to see the country and experience Croatia. You will want to do it again. In fact, we even chartered our own cruise one time - with all our cousins and it was fabulous. All in all, we have used the Katarina line about 7 times.

Hi Manux77

You could try www.lazywinch.com who have something that might be what you are after...a 'cabin' charter. We are doing one in June for the first time. There are max of 4 couples with private cabin with ensuite facilities and a skipper. You decide the itinerary on the first night. We are in the same situation in that we did not want a cruise but being only the two of us, we could not afford to charter a boat on our own. They have different dates and different points of departure. There may be one that suits your times.
Cheers
