1 WEEK IN CAMBODIA

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Cambodia

Hi everybody,
My trip is mainly based in Vietnam but I'd like to spend 1 week in Cambodia; is it enough or do I need more days?
Thanks a lot,
Alice

Depends what you want to see and do there.....

1

It would be enough if you only wanted to stay in one place such as Siem Reap, you would have enough time to visit two places and the travel time between them, but not enough time for three places...
If you really only have a week, I would still definitely go and just make the most of it.

2

how will you be returning to vietnam?
if overland, no VOA at the border.

3

As above. If you will be returning to Vietnam after you visit Cambodia then you need a multi-entry visa for Vietnam. The cheapest, easiest visa option I've found for Vietnam is www.vietnamvisaprovider.com for a pre-approved visa letter online. However, this option requires that your first entry to Vietnam must be by AIR. Also see www.canbypublications.com for good information on travel around Cambodia.

4

why do you want to visit cambodia?

might be able to help if you could provide a little info

5

I already apply for multiple entry visa, so I shouldn't have any problem once I go back to Vietnam.
In Cambodia I'd like I was thinking to spend 2 nights in PP, a couple of days on the beach and then 3 nights in Siem Reap; this is my idea but any suggestion is more than welcome!
Thanks everybody

6

How about getting between those places, and to and from Vietnam?

If you take out travel time, that is too fast for my liking....I'd drop one (personally, the beach)

7

We are thinking about booking a bus from Ho Chi Minh to PP, it takes around 6/7 hours; then from Siem Reap to Hanoi our idea is to take a flight and save time.
I've seen there are a lot of bus companies to travel within Cambodia, would you recommend any of them?

8

Not really long enough but you could go to Kampot from Mekong then PP then onto SR. Allow 1 day travel time between PP and SR and 1/2 day between Kampot and PP. Beaches not that special in Cambodia. PP Sorya is the bus I used most, fairly reliable but some buses are old. If you want post bus then there are several like Mekong Express.

9

As above to much. I would also consider flying to siem reap as well as from just so as not to waste a day on what is not the most exciting of bus trips

10

Form PP to Siem Reap we'll take a night bus, so we'll save time.
I think we'll do 1 week between the 2 main cities and then if we have more time we'll enjoy beach life as well!
Thanks a lot everybody!

11

You're welcome...have a nice trip!

12

Night buses are not very safe in Cambodia. If you go to SR how will get to the beach?

13

We'll se once we are there; we are going to stay 1 week and try to do as much as we can.
Thanks a lot!

14

I have rarely heard of anyone I have met speak positively about the night bus experience in Cambodia although I admit there are some on the forum who will recommend them - chose very very carefully

15

I am not too positive about them.

Sometimes though, you want to save time and money.....,so you put up with it....

16

Herbie,

heard people spitting blood and thunder a couple of weeks ago because they were put on a night bus from SR to Sihanoukville when they thought they were going direct to Koh Kong (in their case Andung Teuk) and were not very happy about having to then make another long trip to reach Chi Phat so I am guessing there is a bus but even so there is still the time factor for the trip in question

17

even I draw the line somewhere and I would only even consider if it was the very last option

18

I think we can try a night ride ... Once in a life experience! Hopefully we'll survive :)
