1 or 2 day trips from Istanbul

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Turkey

Hi
I have 6 days in Istanbul and wanted to do a 1 or 2 day trip somewhere else.
Was thinking about the Gallipoli thing - or maybe a ferry to somewhere and an overnight.

Any "must do"s?

Cheers.....

Theres more than sufficient in Istanbul for 6 days. Gallipoli is quite a distance - more than most people realise. If you have not already found the site, have a look at turkeyplanner for suggestions and places to visit. A little depends on whether you expect to be back in Turkey another time, and where your priorities are? Gallipoli or perhaps Ephesus (fly to Izmir late one night, back late the next day) but that only gives you 4 days in one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

The correct name of the travel site mentioned above is "www.turkeytravelplanner.com."

You could get the daily ferry (10:35am departure) from Eminonu (sp?) and go up the Bosphorus towards the Black Sea. There are different stopping points along the way. Many people choose to return to Istanbul via buses.

Aside from the Bosporus"cruise", you could go to Bursa, or tothe Prince's Isles. You won't wear out Istanbul in a week in any case. Unless you're an Anzac defeat fan, Galipoli isn't worth thr ten hour round trip by bus.

Great - thanks to all of you - good to get some feedback one ones ideas......
I don't fancy a 10 hour bus trip to Gallipoli, I have to say!

Off to checkout the Turkeyplanner site now - and you have all given me the excuse to lazily mooch around Istanbul for my time.

Thanks again.

If you can lay hands on "The Blue Guide" to Istanbul, it has very detailed walking tours, and descriptions ofall of the significant buildings and sites. It adds a lot to one's appreciation of the city.
