Hi all, hoping for some feedback on our itinerary to Iceland in August. Four adults are going and will be there for ten days. Our main goal for the trip is hiking the Landmannalaugar to Porsmork trek (the Laugavegurinn,) but we also want to spend a few days further east, checking out Skaftafell, Jokulsarlon, the area around Vik. We are pretty outdoorsy, but also look forward to having some relaxation and creature comforts after we finish the hike. We are thinking to just get a rental car for…
Visiting Iceland in early April for 7 - 10 days and have a question.
Are roads in the north safe do self drive based on recent weather and historical weather in early April?
I really wanted to see northern lights but my travel options are leaving April 2nd wich coincides with full moon. Would it be better to try to travel following week to improve chances?
Me and my wife will be doing a road trip in Iceland between 23th august and 1st September. As you guys can see I think 10 days will be a good amount of time as I don't want to feel rushed. But maybe I'm wrong, so I want some advices on it. After some research, my itinerary would be something like this:
Day 1 - We arrive in Reykjavik at 14PM, pick up the car (Sadcars or Blue Car Rentals), skip the Golden Ring (we will go there in the end of the trip) and go in direction to Vík and…
Hi, I am going to be in Iceland 7/24-8/02 and would like to go to Grimsey Island on my own before or after these dates. The flight from Reykjavik leaves at 0715 and only stays on the island 2 hrs, I am looking for an alternative. Can anyone recommend a tour company in Iceland that I can contact to plan a bus/flight/ferry/hotel trip to Grimsey?
If our flights are on time, we are arriving at 6:30 Thursday morning. Can't wait! I know the Blue Lagoon is probably a tourist trap but it sounds like a nice way to shake off jet lag. We are thinking of waiting at the airport for the 9:30 bus to BL and then taking an early afternoon bus to Reykjavik. Going to Reykjavik and then back to the Blue Lagoon seems silly and stopping on our last day when we will be driving in from Hveragerdi and returning the rental seems risky. Will anything be open…
Our family of 4 will be making our first trip to Iceland this June. We are planning to rent a cabin near Akranes and take day trips from there. Since we only have 4 days, we will limit our focus to geothermal and volcanic sites. Our rental car will be 2 wheel drive. Day 1 we thought we would stop by Austurengjar/Krysuvik and Seltun on the Reykjanes peninsula then take a hike around Hveragerdi. Day 2 we were planning on driving around the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Any suggestions as to…
The three of us (wife, ten year old grand daughter and myself) will be in Iceland for a five night DIY self drive. I like to plan out each day in detail, but often over plan -- so I would welcome comments and suggestions as I plan day to day.
First full day. Delivery of rental car at the hotel in Reykjavik and on the road by 0900. The itinerary is:
The Geothermal Power Plant at Hellisheioarvirkjum and then on to a short visit to Hverageroi (geothermal energy is of interest to me)
I am planning a 10 day road trip to Iceland in August and I would love to get some tips on the not so touristic spots of the island.
I am mainly interested in nature beauties, yet again who doesn't, if they go to Iceland. Though my plan is to rent a car and circle around the whole island, avoiding a stay in Reykjavik for more than a night.
I have been reading and researching quite a lot, but from my experience in travelling the best tips always come through other travellers, so…
