It seems that most expeditions on Everest are withdrawing from the mountain, as most high altitude Sherpas are on strike and leaving EBC. This strike aims to get more benefits from the Nepal Government to the families of 16 Sherpas who died in the Khumbu Icefall disaster last friday.

So those of you who are planning to trek to EBC this May there might be not much to see, maybe only a few groups doing unassisted climbs only. One demand is to stop all climbing this season, also.

Hello folks,

I had a couple of questions about EBC trekking in early May (May 1 - May 21). Im gonna be taking the standard route from Lukla. I was wondering if those of you with experience could:

1) comment on visibility and weather

2) comment on whether I should be taking medium weight or expedition weight Merino base layers (or both)

Thanks in advance!

Suddenly become very keen for EBC, and have leave from mid May. As keen as I am , I understand there are better times to do it, and if I wait until eg. November I'll most likely have better weather & more time to plan. Thoughts? At this stage I have done no training & have no gear…!

Hi,
We would like to hike the tour du Mont Blanc on a student budget and were therefore wondering whether it is possible to go camping on the trail instead of staying in the refuges/mountain huts?

Hi!

This is my first post here at the Thorn Tree Forum:)

My friend and I are planning a trip to the Pyrenees this summer, in the middle of july. We want to start in Cauterets and end in Gavarnier, and spend the night at the refuges up in the mountains. (we have planned the route for each day - my planner is at my friends house, and I don´t remember every refuge and the name of the areas by heart)

From what I´ve read up until now, this area is quite popular, so my question is: does anyone now…

Can anyone provide updated info for travelling that region? Especially trekking to K2 and Gondogoro La.
I'm aware of the requirement of having an accompanying liaison officer. Has anyone tried that arrangement?
I've posted this already on India Subcontinent branch. Still looking for more info.

Iv'e been searching the web about mountaineering courses around the world. And the results my search turned are very confusing.. many different options, different courses, and I didn't really understand a thing.. hoping for some help and guidance on the matter..

I'm a fairy fit 25 year old from Israel, with some difficult-trekking experience worldwide. looking for a basic mountaineering course, that would allow me the necessary knowledge to climb basic alpine peaks (island peak in Nepal…

Hi, four adult family members are hoping to do the Tour du Mont Blanc, unfortunately the only time we could get our schedules aligned is for late September. We're planning on departing Les Houches Sept 17th. We're from the midwest and are used to the cold, so we're not too worried about the weather, but I am worried about the refuges closing for the season. As a back-up, we'd have to take trains or buses from one place to the next if we're unable to stop at a hut mid way. Does anyone have…

Hi, I was just wondering if there are any sections of either the Tour du Mont Blanc or Walker's Haute Route that are absolute standouts or highlights? Or for people who've done either trek, what was your favorite part?

I won't have enough time to do either but would like to do 4 days of hiking either as dayhikes or two overnight sections of either. Thanks!

Hi. We are planning to go to the Uk in December/ January. There are so many places to walk we don't know where to start. Can anyone recommend their favourite spots that would be doable at this time of year? We are looking at day rambles and small treks lasting a few days with dorms/ pubs for overnight (no camping). We'd prefer somewhere a bit wild in a national park. Thanks.
