Is it possible - I'm guessing it is but just checking - to buy reasonable quality hiking/walking boots in Argentina at a reasonable price. I say this as it would make more sense to buy some out there rather than lug a pair from the UK.
Also if anyone has any tips for a single male taking his first foray into hiking in Argentina/Chile I would be most appreciative. I'm obviously realistic and do not expect to be scaling mountains, but I would like to do some short hikes.

Hello!

I am planning to visit Mexico in November this year for 2 weeks, and I wonder about the climbing conditions for the 3 highest peaks in Mexico: Pico de Orizaba (5 610 m), Popocatepetl (5 454 m) and Iztaccihuatl (5 286 m). I would like to scale one of them if possible (I am familiar with high altitude mountaineering from Elbrus and Puna de Atacama).

The height of those volcanos seems to be almost equal, in that sense it does not really matter which one I choose. I am looking for which one…

Hey everyone,
I will be in Innsbruck, Austria for 3-5 days in early June and I am wondering if someone could help me plan the best way to see the Alps. Here is some relevant details.

- I have a lot of walking kilometers behind me but no experience above the snow line
- I have some rockclimbing experience but only as a second and not at high grades
- I have hiking boots, warm waterproof clothing etc but NO technical equipment (crampons, ropes etc)
- I have a tent, but its not a good one
- I would like…

I posted this on the South America branch but with no real success.... maybe I'll be more lucky this time!

I will be in Argentina in August and I am looking for some 3-4 days hikes or for some village/parks which I can use as a base for day hikes.

Could you suggest anything, knowing that:
... I am 23F and I will be travelling alone, ie, it would be perfect if it's not difficult to arrange a group or a reliable/safe guide;
... I am reasonably fit, but I definitely want to walk, ie, not climb;
... I…

I"m traveling to Thailand, a few days in Bangkok, a day in Sukhotai, 4-5 in Chiang Mai/Northern area, and then a week in the south (ko samui area). I plan on staying at places with sheets/private bathrooms/a/c. Do I need to get a backpack like everyone else, or is my big travel bag with a shoulder strap good enough for the trek to/fro from bus/train/air stations and the lodging area.

Cheers buddies

We are thinking about visiting Kyrgyzstan this summer to climb Pk Lenin, normal route.

1. Is there cheap transport between Osh and the Base Camp ?

2. Is it possible to buy the climbing and borderzone permit in the Base Camp ??? What do they ask ? Does it still cost 105 USD per person ?

3. Do we need to bring a rope or are there fixed ropes on the steeper parts/crevassed parts ? Or could we hire it in the Base Camp ?

Thanks in advance !

Hi everyone, this is my first foray into this branch, so please be gentle with me! ;)

3 friends and I have rented a cottage in inland Catalunya for a long weekend in about 10 days (from 11th till 15th June). We're planning on spending most of it in the pool or on the terrace, barbequing and drinking but we also fancy doing something a bit active.

Scandalously, I've never been to the Aigüestorts national park (near Sort in Lleida) so, even though we're staying a good couple of hours drive away…

Salaam

Girlfriend and I would like to do a long trek somewhere in the broad area between say Gilgit and Sost. Somewhere before the end of June. Off the beaten tracks and say from four-five days to a week or more.

Is there anybody else out there who is planning the same and interested in teaming up ??? We have all the necessary gear (but no map ;-). We like to keep things simple and are used to carry our own stuff.
We have already done Biafo-Hispar and K2-Concordia.

Please email me at sherpalito at…

I am planning to trek the Adi Kailash route i.e. from Tawaghat/Pangu to Adi Kailash, begining sometime in the first week of July. I am hoping to trek for atleast 10-15 days.

I am looking for a trek guide experienced in that route. I will mostly be trekking alone. Interested trek guides can mail me at "ambrish.ramasubbu@gmail.com" with rates and contact information.

I also want to hire a tent in Delhi/Darchula. Any idea on where I can hire a tent?

Hi, would like to go on a trekking break with an organised group. Would much rather organise it myself but I don' want to trek solo.

Are there any good recommendations for groups that might specialise in treks for solos. The main thing I want to avoid is being on a group with loads of couples!!

thanks
