Is there anywhere you can think of that you can trek and climb as easily and as cheap as Nepal.
Anybody trekking in Nepal next Feb? Looking for a trek buddy? I'm planning on doing both Annapurna and Gokyo. I'll be in Nepal from the 1st Feb. to the 5th March.
Thanx ... RIO
Hi
While mountaineering & trekking in the Himalayas earlier this year I found the batteries of my GPS and torch konking out despite being absolutely fresh. They got going once I warmed them up by rubbing them between my hands.
I have to say that this wasn't the best experience because we were descending from a summit in pitch drankess on a route which was different from our ascent.
The batteries were Energizer AA Alkaline
Does any one know what type of batteries perform better under cold conditions…
Hi everyone. I will be trekking the Anna Purna circuit in April/May, and was wondering what people do about glasses and contacts. Ideally I'd like to wear my contacts, so I could wear sunglasses, but wearing contacts while trekking would make my eyes more prone to infection. However if I wear my glasses, I won't be able to protect my eyes from the sun/glare.
What experience have people had with wearing contacts or glasses on these treks, and what should I do? Obviously I'll be taking both…
There are those long hikes like John Muir, the AT etc in the States, similar ones in Europe. I wondered if an equivalent exists in New Zealand? Like a hike where you cross the south island from north to south, or east to west, or... did some research but couldn't find any. They 'should' exist, don't they?
I'm planning to trek the Kokoda Trail to finish this coming Anzac Day 2005. Am taking 4 x 13 yr old boys.
Anyone used any of the trekking orgs? Any tips for that time of year? Is it as tough as they say?

Not sure if this has been covered here before but the excellent Choro trek from just up the mountain from La Paz to Coroico has a few mistakes in the LP guidebook.
Firstly, nobody doing this hike would need a guide, it's impossible to get lost.
Secondly, the LP trekking guide is full of mistakes. The map is wrong (the village of San Fransisco is marked several km in the wrong place, on the wrong side of the river!) and the descriptions and times are hopeless. I'd strongly recommend to anyone doing…
What is the visibility like in these areas in FEB? I've heard that due to the mist and snow you can't see 5h1t in front of you.
What is the setup with porters and organising insurance for them? In which circumstances does this need to be arranged?
