I recently walked the 3 day La Cumbre to Coroica trek with Raichle Scout Goretex boots with Vibram soles. I had been recommended these as a replacement for my KSB boots (I have Scarpa boots for the winter). I found these boots had no grip on the wet stones. I had to borrow an extra walking pole to complete the walk. The soles are very different from my previous boots (KSB) with same sole maker. Can anyone comment

Thanks in anticipation

ive been gnawing my arm off trying to decide what transport to take around newzealand! so for the sake of my arm, help!

firstly I dont have a driving license so i cant get a car or camper. I mainly want to tramping and wwoofing, and have been told the best thing to do is get shuttle buses, (are there any main companies to look for?) However, im travelling alone and would probably rather take a backpacker bus for an instant companion fix! Would this make it hard to reach tramping tracks, or is it…

Hi,

I'm doing the EBC trek in February and am looking for a good travel insurance policy? Any recommendations?

Ideally, I'd like the cover to include these 4 things (and it seems difficult finding a policy that will)

1) Cancellation costs if the UK Govt change their advice and say don't go to Nepal.

2) Cover for personal injury / medical expenses due to terrorism . . a difficult one to find cover for but I know of one insurer that will do this.

3) Trekking as an activity above 4000mtrs

4) A decent…

Hi,
does anybody know an agency (or any other possibility) that can organize transport from Puno (or Juliaca) to a remote village in the Cordillera Apolobamba. (There is public transport, but only once a week). Hitchhiking is not really an option, because we will have a lot of mountaineering equipment.
thanks for any advice
Rob

Sierra Valdivieso Trip Report

(for a full review of the route, you need to look at Clem´s book!)

Day 1
Taxi to the start of the route, in addition to the 2 yellow ´peligra warning signs, there is a small cairn.... the only one on the route.
The navigation starts off fairly easy, although the rustic tin shed has dissapeared.<BR>I follow the poor`` 4WD trail for ages, across the rickety bridge, so far so good.
In fact, the instructions work ok right up until the wet bog after half an hour... after…

At the risk of being bombarded with them anyway. Why do people on this website insist on posting flippant relies to posts? If you deem a post stupid why reply at all instead of these 'look at this stupid prick' replies that are so common. We all started somewhere and i'm sure have all asked daft questions in our time. A little understanding would go a long way. After all it is Christmas.

After visiting this fantastic trek again this summer I am sure
many of you who were there would love to share your experience
of being there on the golden jublee of K2.

This could be a guide for those who might plan to take this trek
in future.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

I would like to do a mountaineering skills course similar to what Alpine Guides of NZ etc offer yet somewhere further afar such as India or Kyrgyzstan. Anybody got any ideas/contacts?
