Great trip, doing the carretera Austral and connecting it that way with southern patagonia is one of the best adventures in SA these days.

Going from El Chalten to Villa O'Higgins, is it necessary to do this as part of a tour, or is it possible just to take the bus the first part of the way, walk the next bit, and then hop on the ferry? OR is route finding a problem? Thanks in advance.
