March 2012: Seeking Trekking-partner for the Gunung Tahan-trail in Taman Negara rainforest. I takes 7 to 9 days, you should be fit for that and have the right equipment with you. I could start on march 3 (earliest date) from Kuala Tahan. And the latest date to come back to Kuala Tahan should be march 14 (unfortunately i am limited in time, but i definitely want to make this trek since years) Best would be to meet up in Kuala Tahan (was there before, did some smaller trekkings, like 3 days, can recommend you accomodation and how to come there on your own). For the trek we have to hire a guide, the last two days it will be orang asli-people (well, thats what i have been told) and to bring own equipment, like tent, sleeping bag, mats and so on (i heard it's also possible to rent in the park headquarter). i will travel alone, thats why i'm seeking for company for this trek and it's difficult to find travellers for that in Kuala Tahan, because most of the people stay only 1 to 3 days there and do maximum 3 days-tekkings. I am female and in 2007 I did the first part of the Gunung Tahan-trail on my own alone, but that was a little scary !

I did Gunung Tahan a few years ago and did not need as many days as you are planning. I think it was 6 days but we did not return the same way. There is a shorter way out to the north and at the ranger station they will give you a ride to the highway for a small fee. From there you can catch a bus back to Jerantut. You should be back there in time to catch the night train to KL.

If you can't find anyone, I would try to contact the ranger station at the main entrance and see if they have a group lined up so you can share the costs.

It's a great trip, insane amounts of rain, so waterproof everything and be prepared for many seriously deep, but calm, river crossings.

Good luck.

Jon
