Hi All,
Has anyone done the EBC trek in September? I begin my trek on the 13th September and have read that the views are not good due to the weather.
Could someone please give me more detail.
Thanks in advance.

Hello

I have not trkked EBC at that time...but it is possible for the weather to affect the trek at that time.

Typically the monsoon ends mid- to late-September leaving the skies clear for erfect trekking weather. Hpwever, for the last couple of years (at least) the monsoon has ended later. This has meant the rain has lingered with the clouds obscuring the views of the mountains. Usually the mornings are clear with cloud building up from around noon with rain spells in the afternoon.

Difficult to tell what this year will bring but if better weather is important to you then consider delaying your trip (to mid-November if possible).

Some basic weather info for KTM [here</a>.

I have trekked Nepal EBC in late September and it often rained in the afternoon and evenings. If you can delay your trip until Oct. 10th, do so. Otherwise, just go and expect some cloudy and rainy weather in the afternoon.

Why are you asking about the weather after you've selected a date? If you get answers you don't want to hear, are you going to change your schedule or are you a masochist? I don't want to be mean or flip, but it just seems an odd question to me. I wouldn't trek Nepal EBC in September. Been there, done that!

I think you'll be a lot happier if you can change your flights to start your trek after Oct. 10th. The disadvantage is that there will be more people, but I would rather have more people and be able to see the mountains more clearly for a longer period of time. Generally, the weather is substantially improved between mid Oct. and the end of December. December gets cold, but it's generally very clear.

I have been trekking in Nepal a number of times, & spent many weeks there each time. Usually monsoons are ending by mid September [& any rain later in Sept. is only a brief afternoon shower]. October is great, through mid November. Later Nov. & through December, expect colder weather, especially above Namche Bazaar.

The higher tea houses can be cold at night. Pick ones that seem to be tight enough for protection from wind. Colder nights mean warmer bags, liners, & stocking caps. Colder days = more layers. A large full-brim OR hat, with a Navy-style thin watch cap that fit under it, were my most often used equipment.

I have a lot of info I can share, re safe water & food tips, safe KTM restaurants, good inexpensive KTM hotel, + trekking food & supply shops.

I met a Sherpa & his family on my first trip that have become life-long friends. The Sherpa Guide / Porter attended English schools in KTM, from K through some college, & lives in a friendly lodge adjacent to Mt. Everrest Trail.

I am often in chat & email contact with him, + he has a cell phone & PC at his lodge. He is a good companion on the trail -- serving as both Guide & Porter. He has additional porters, if needed for more than 1 or 2 trekkers.

I love Nepal -- nountains & people -- & I'm glad to offer assistance so others may also have the experience.

Hi

Do you have 15 days for the trek or 15 days in Nepal?

EBC takes 14 days normally from KTM to KTM but it can take less with a fast return. With some advance preparations (e.g. booking the Lukla flights before you arrive) then it is possible even with 15 days in the country but there are risks. If you take a little longer (for whatever reason) or the return Lukla is delayed then you might miss the international flight home.

Current ball park cost for a guide is $25 per day including food, accommodation and insurance; $12 - $15 for a porter and $20 for a porter/guide.

Good luck.
