can anyone provide bus schedules for getting from huaraz to huallanca, and then onto matacancha/cuartelhuain? is the road built upto matacancha, and do buses ply the huallanca to matacancha section?
also, does the bus go via chavin?
i'd appreciate bus schedules, as we plan to trek the huayhaush starting and ending at matacancha.
thanks.

Huaraz to Huallanca: 6 am and 12:30 noon. With 'El Rapido'. They don't go through Chavin. I'm pretty sure there is no bus to Matacancha, which is not a populated area, only trucks/pickups going to the Mitsui mine (I passed Matacancha on my trek). What's the point of starting/ending in Matacancha ?
It's possible to go by minibus to La Union, Baños and then Queropalca (3 hrs from the circuit trail), if you'd like.

thanks!
i was pretty sure huallanca can be reached by public transport (lp central andes mentions this). we want to avoid the chiquan/llamac/popca route as, from what i understand, the road is built up and the walk is not very interesting.
this is the route we are hoping to do-
Matacancha to Laguna Mitucocha, over the Cacanan Pass (4700m)
Trek to Laguna Carhuacocha over the Carhuac Pass (4650m)
Trek to Huayhuash over the Suila Pass (4800m)
Trek to Laguna Viconga over the Portachuelo Pass (4750m)
Trek to Quebrada Huanacpatay over the Punto Cuyac Pass (5030m)
Side Trip to Laguna Sarapococha / Jurau
Trek to Huayllapa
Trek to Quebrada Jashapmapa over the Tapush Pass (4800m)
Trek to Laguna Jahuacocha over the Jaucha Pass (4800m)
Rest day at Laguna Jahuacocha (any worthwhile side trips?)
Trek to Matacancha over the Sambunya Pass (4750m)
by the way, since you have done the trek, are there any good side trips that we might do - any small peaks to climb or side valleys to explore (example, from the jahuacocha region)?
