Could anyone recommend me some locations to go hiking over Christmas? I am looking for a quiet, out of the way location where my GF and I can either hike independently or hire a local guide if need be (no porter/heavily commercial route). Length wise it would need to be between 4-8 days and ideally a single multi day hike but a couple of smaller ones put together may be an option.
Ideally we would like a location that is quiet where we are unlikely to see another westerner that may have some nice wildlife opportunities and landscapes (both photographers) and good to go to at Christmas. A tall ask I bet but there must be some places around that you can still hike without having to fork out huge sums of cash for organised tours/permits or walk through heavily industrialised/agricultural land. Another ideal would be somewhere reasonably close to Europe, with short flight times (basically Africa...).
