I'm thinking about taking this route in January 2005 and would love to hear about experiences, including tour operators. I'm especially interested in any recent experience with Good Earth Tours or Africa Travel Resources. Thanks.

I did Rongai in June. You have picked probably the most expensice companies to climb with. I did it with Roy Safaris. Their food and tents were excellent and i think they charged $850 for 5 days/4 nights. Be warned they do not have good sleeping bags/down jackets etc. Everyone seems to skimp on that. As you will see from my photos I was lucky at the top, it was warm. On the climb up though I suspect it was about -10 and that was with no wind.

I did it with 2 girls and we didnt see anyoje else on the rongai route till we got to the saddle. Some people say that the climb up the scree from the rongai route is harder than the normal route. I am not sure of that. Remember it is all fairly easy till summit day. The climb up the scree is the killer.

I though the climb was pretty aboring and uninspiring till I got to the crater.
