Anybody done a mountainnering course with one of the compaines in New Zealand?
Stories good or bad, thoughts and advice would all help.
Is an extra $200 here or there made up in service and extras?
You dont have to mention company names if you could PM me if you like.

Hi

I recently did a 7-day course myself in NZ with a company called Aspiring Guides. I was pretty happy with it, but if you have the time and cash, you might be better off going for a 10-day beginner course (which several of the other guiding companies in NZ offer).

The biggest negative i found was that you have no way of knowing who the other "clients" on the course with you will be, and the group always has to operate at the pace of the slowest and weakest member. That can be quite frustrating at times if you get a dud on your course!

Best thing of course would be if you could get together 2 or 3 other people that you know and are evenly matched with, and then just hire yourselves a guide directly.

Irrespective, we all had an awesome time and it is a great way to get some initial experience in the mountains.

Send me a message if you want any more detailed info, would be happy to help.
