Hi everybody!
I´m in a hurry, so I´m sorry if I missed topic answering my question somewhere on the Thron Tree.
So
- I´ve heared levadas are being repaired during december and january and because of that they´re without running water at that time, is that true?
- how about drinkin water supply during the trek? Is it OK to drink water running in levadas? Did you ever tried it?:-)
- and the third and the last question: is it possible to camp along levadas? (Well, I do NOT mean in tunnels:-))) )
Thanx!

I see noone is answering you. I've been in Madeira in January, I didn't notice any work in progress on the levadas, there was plenty of water and I also drank some. But I only did daywalks.

The walkways beside the Levadas are a bit narrow for camping, as for drinking from them, I wouldn't.

I wouldn't drink the water in the levadas, some levadas running through villages have garbage in them. Bring bottled water. Along some levadas, villagers have small tents where you can buy bottled water, flowers etc. There won't be a salesman waiting for you, instead you're expected to do as the signs say, i.e. leave your money and only take what you're paying for. These tents are only common along some levadas running through villages.

Since there are lots and lots of levadas, I find it highly unlikely that all of them would be empty in January.

I'd expect camping to be pretty tricky, the paths are mostly narrow and I wouldn't want to be carrying too much camping equipment through some of the tunnels I've walked through.
