I'm a 32 year old female traveling to Pakistan from 29June - 25 July. I'm traveling solo but think it would be great to meet up with some people in Islamabad who would be interested in joining me for the hike. Male, female, or anything in between :) I'm relatively fit, but know from hiking the Incan trail several years ago altitude can kick me in the butt, so I would ideally like to hike with folks who are in general fit but who have enough flexibility in their travel schedules to allow for an extra day or two, if needed, to properly acclimatize.

Alternatively, if any of the regulars on this forum have recommendations for places where I would be most likely to meet other folks planning to trek, I'd certainly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

You may not be a US citizen but you might want to read the travel warning issued by the US State Department about Pakistan...and I would think given the attitude toward westerners and toward women that a solo woman might not have the best of times...

Hi Febea,

India and to be more specific Mumbai could be an alternate option. Why don't you give a thought?

febea, I did this trek inJuly of 2013 and I had a great time. Most people do this trek by going through a trekking agency. In fact, in may be difficult to get a VISA without doing so because you need an invitation letter and it helps to have your trekking permit submitted with your VISA. I went through Snowland Treks, Tours, and Expeditions, a local Pakistani company, and they did a great job with the trek and organizing everything. They are highly recommended on this board if you do a query. So is Vertical Explorers and others. I would contact these two companies (and others) and see if you could join an existing group.

It would be difficult to do this trek without going through a trekking company. The logistics of getting to the beginning of the trek are complex, with lots of government and police checkpoints. Further, you need to bring everything in with you on the trek. There isn't much infrastructure like there is in Nepal or India.

On my trek, I meet several women trekking with Vertical Explorers. They were having a great trip. As part of a group, these women were doing fine. I think it would be quite difficult for a woman to travel around Pakistan solo.

I've made inquiries for K2 or Gondogoro La and checked the visa situation.
To get Pakistani visa you need LOI. I've contacted the same agency as Tomtraveller used, Snowlands.
Furthermore, according to new regulations, it's becoming more expensive as every group must be accompanied by a liaison officer and that adds to trekkers' expenses.
