Hi
I fancy a week's walking holiday in Bavaria this summer - I've heard the hiking is great and that there are networks of mountain huts to stay in. Does anyone know of an approx 5 day walk that overnights in huts and is accessible by public transport?
Cheers

check with "deutscher alpenverein" on google, cant help, bavarians love to hike in the mountains, there defenitely are dozens of huts but there may not be a certain way.

The greatest and most alpine area is the Karwendel mountain range. It is mostly in Austria but with access from Bavaria, the small town of Mittenwald. Mittenwald can be reached by local train from Munich, leaving every hour. Well, the hikes require a good shape and it can go up to 2700m elevation starting from 900m.
If you want something smooth you can also go to Bayrischzell or Tegernsee (by local train from Munich), the mountains in that area are not that high.
