Hi all :)

I am going nuts searching online for a rucksack floating device I could purchase. Any ideas?

Basically i will be doing some trekking in south america next fall. I know there are times when I have to cross rivers and small seas on small boats. I am afraid that unluckily, my rucksack could fall out of the boat. I know, I would have to be very unlucky but.... I already have a fry sack to prevent it from getting wet. But this won't do if it falls in a deep area. Therefore I wanted to buy an inflatable boy... or something with the same spirit.. that would keep the rucksack from sinking.

Any ideas??? Anything will be greatly appreciated :) Yes, I have also thought of spontaneous solutions as using a rope and a big piece of cork I could find around along the way. But... :D

Fito- you're being a bit obsessive! Think of the dead weight of this flotation device (whatever it would be!) And I guess you would have to inflate it before you got on the boat? You might as well bring along a life jacket for yourself at the same time. The chances of anything happening are pretty remote.

Why not bring along a carabiner (or use a simple piece of rope) to attach your bag to something on the boat and leave it at that?

I am sure everything will be fine. Go out there and have a good time.

Get a watertight canoe sack big enough to hold your pack inside. Leave as much air inside as possible when closing it and it will float. Attach with a piece of string to the boat (so it will sink with the boat, not float downstream...).

That canoe sack also works as a pack protector during the flights.

:D Why dont you buy a cheap life jacket for the sack or even plain thermacol will do the job well :)
