Hi, i have just one quick question - how cold does it get in April in the everest region? im looking to trek from friendship highway to ebc and then to tingri with a friend, but i cant find anywhere what nighttime temps to expect at this time of year. in terms of planning what to take its quite frustrating.
looking at a post on this branch has raised another question, is it possible to get to the Nepali border from tingri without pre-arranged transport?
Thank you for any help

apparently temps vary depending on exact location...but, i've looked at temps at everest base camp for the past five years or so and it seems to hover around -12 celsius/10 F (that doesn't include wind chill factor). i'm told on sunny days it feels pretty warm. the nights, however, can get really chilly.
you can look at adventureweather.com or perhaps someone else has a better website.
hope that helps. p.
Yes as #1 has said, it can feel very warm on a sunny day even when the temperature is low. The windchill at EBC can be intense. Try looking at this. Type in Tingri to check out the weather there.

Hi, thanks for your help guys. erm yep i think il dress up warm! im gonna take a sleeping bag that goes down to -12 comfortably, can always use a liner and clothes if it gets colder. i hope the trek will be good, ive heard mixed reviews but hey how often do u get the chance! the linked site in #2 is great

Hello, I did that trek in Aug. Night time tempts will be chilly but managable...Altitude!!!!
We also hitched out of the EBC and all the way back to Lhasa...hitching was easy!
good luck

Hi, if you consider to trek in Everest area DO NOT trek from friendship highway to EBC and DO NOT trek to/from Tingri! It is very boring, because now the jeep roads are constructed there and many landcruisers going this way. Instead go BEHIND EBC to advance basecamps. You of course must be totally self sufficient and prepared for severe conditions as this is high altitude trek even over 6000m. But the walking is not difficult, you do not need any mountaineering equipment and views are excellent. I did already many treks, but this was one of the best - a really world class! Good Luck!
