I need suggestions about the cheap ways to fly from Europe to Ushuaia. I guess it would be via Buenos Aires - any carrier that you would suggest?
I plan to go to Tierra Del Fuego for a trekking for a month: middle of Dec - middle of January. Is this a reasanoble idea, in respect to climate and also air fares?
And one more question: can you suggest and treks in Tierra Del Fuego: I am looking for longer, solitude treks (with realy spectacular views please...)
Thanks
Robert

Hi there,
you should be fine in december-january, as it is mid summer out there.
there's the dentes trek on Isla Navarino, just south of Ushuaia, starting from Puerto Williams. you shouldn't have any trouble with crowds with that one.
the Torres del Paine is definately one for spectacular views, we spent about a week there. the nearest town is Puerto Natales (can't remember if it's actually in Tierra del Fuego).

Best way to fly from BsAs to Ushuaia is to wait buy a ticket once you get to BsAs. Of course, this only works if you will have at least a couple of days in BsAs first. The cheapest airline in Argentina is LADE, which is govt run. You can only buy the tickets there. You can also fly Aerolineas Argentinas or Southern Winds. These can be booked over the internet or through a travel agent, but are often twice as expensive as buying once in Argentina. I think I paid ~US$200 for a one way ticket a few months back booking from the US. It's very difficult and time consuming to get to Ushuaia by bus.
