Hello all.
So basically i was in nepal trekking nov/dec, now in india but itching to get back to nepal and do the three passes as soon as possible. I was hoping to start at the beginning of feb from jiri, so maybe hit the first pass mid feb. Just wanting to know if this has been a 'harsh' or 'mild' winter? Was there loads of snow? Is it clearing already? (v unlikely but it does happen maybe ill head up late jan)

If anyone is in the region id love to know how it generally is, thanks.

Trekking Everest region from Jiri can be done in this season too. Since first week of March get start seasonable trekking time in Everest Region. Crossing 3 passes in mid Feb is not sure to open its way. there now full of snow and even march month is hard to clear their way because of Strong and slippery ice on the way and at the top after crossing getting down.

Among three passes Chola is hard to Cross in the month of Feb.

Thanks

Hi adocat

Winter trekking in Nepal is more than possible and that includes the 3 passes. There is relatively little precipitation on winter; huge dumps of snow blocking passes is possible it is not the norm.

Maybe look through posts by rdccomments who has trekked the the 3 passes a number of time in winter.

The first snow of the season fell on Janaury 1/2. On Renjo Pass before that there were patches of sheer ice, but you could cross.
However it is impossible to predict what the conditions will be mid-February.

Thanks for the replies, it seems like its a case of just turning up (equipped) and just seeing how it goes and doing whatever you can, access wise. Worst comes to worst i could still go start of feb and head up and down gokyo and kumbu valleys. And if im lucky do some of the passes. Win win situation!
