Climbing in NE Chad

Has anyone been to Aouzou, Bardai or Zouar in the Tibestian Mountains (NE Chad)? Any idea how to get there from N'Djamena? Basically trying to climb Emi Koussi, has anyone attempted this? any advice?

No, I haven't been to that part of the country but I used to live in Chad. Although I haven't been there recently, some situations probably won't have changed that much. The Aouzou strip is disputed territory with Libya and foreigners need a permit to go there, which is probably next to impossible to obtain. The situation round Bardai was also difficult while I was living there as it had been taken by rebels planning a coup against the government, and some foreigners living there had been held in custody and then obliged to leave the town owing to accusations of supporting the rebels, but I don't know the current situation. Try to get local advice, there are some local travel agents who used to arrange trips to Bardai when it was allowed for foreigners to go there, you could probably get details from google. Travel agents' pages are likely to be in French and to spell chad as Tchad.
