I will be arriving in Addis next week to work as a volunteer photographer with an NGO. I've been told by the organization that I may need special permission to bring my camera equipment. When I enquired at the Ethiopian consulate in my city, they seemed unaware of any special permits, but told me that I was only allowed to bring one camera. I shoot with two camera bodies, a few lenses, a flash, etc., in a backpack that I intended to bring as carry-on. I prefer to travel with my camera equipment…
Hi all again - I try not to post here often, maybe two or three times a year...but since I understand you are all over the world;
Can anyone open this website?
http://www.puebloingles.com/
This is a company I trust as ‘real’, and I have worked with them before. I was trying to check out their website to forward the link/programme info to a fried.
I have tried four different computers, using Chrome, IE and Firefox, from different locations in Wellington.
The webpage will not open. Nothing…
Hi there, I recently bought a Canon 550d/T2i. I've got a couple of 4gb class 4 Kingston cards and two 4gb Sandisk Extreme cards that I used with my 1000d but I'm looking for 2 more, larger capacity cards that will work with the video capture.
From what I've read I understand that Canon recommends using nothing slower than class 6 cards and that you can have class 4 cards that will work as their minimum transfer speed is 4mb/s but they may usually run at a speed closer to the 6mb/s minimum.
I've…
Hi guys,
I need a piece of advice or actually, I would like to read how you handle this. I love to travel, but that is not my only passion, I also love taking photos during my travels. And that is the reason, that I have tons and tons of photos on my hard drive.
Some of them are better than others, but my main problem is, what to do with them? I made some hard copies, I deleted some... but some of them I really like...Does anybody have any creative ideas what to do with all the photos that are…
This is great, I never knew there was a travel tech section. I like to write (as in books) and to do it in very out of the way places, where there often is limited internet service. I also have a back problem and want something lighter than my regular laptop for weight, and so I can use it in different positions rather than sitting all the time. Of course, l also need to be able to back up my documents without wifi or internet (as in a USB port or?). I don't need a lot of power, or a lot of…

Hello,
I'm travelling to Nepal for a four month volunteer program and I have been trying to figure out the best way to carry money with me. I have decided that I should get a prepaid debit card. The Caxton and FairFX cards look great but from what I can tell from their websites, you need to have a British bank account to link it to. Do any of you know of a similar type of card that has no foreign transaction fees or ATM fees (or very low ones) that would be good for an American? I've tried to…
Great idea for an article. There seems to be so much tech out there for the well-connected traveller.
As far as I can see the big difficulty about using any travel app effectively when abroad, is the need for data connectivity. Until developers solve this issue, then coming home to hefty phone bills will remain a part of our lives. Having said this, Foursquare has been of immense value for me when abroad (particularly for scoping out drinking holes in the surrounding area).
One service that…
Hi again everyone - a while since I've needed teach help, but here we go again.
Long story short - does anyone know how to find old versions of current websites? (I've tried the internet archive/way back when machine, and googling for the address cashed).
Basically, there is a website (for a group), whoch has some rules and criteria on a page. The page has been updated over the last week and the posted rules/criteria have changed - basically this is a retroactive rules change after an…
I am in the market to purchase a new phone at home (in the US), but want to make sure it is useful when I travel too. What are people's experiences using an iPhone while traveling? For example for emailing, international calling, camera, mp3....
