I live in Europe, and will be touring California for three weeks in August, so I would like to get a GPS navigation app for my iPhone4. There seem to be three price levels: $60+, $20-$30, and free. What do the more expensive apps give you for your money? Is it worth paying extra for just three weeks' use, or are there free apps that will do an adequate job?

As my netboook is prepared to give up now - after a loyal commitment for being around me wherever I go for the past 4 years, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a travel notebook with the following specifications:

  • A relatively long battery life (>7hours)

  • Relatively light (well, all netbooks should be relatively light anyway I know...) ;)
  • In-built GPS system that doesn't need the internet to function
  • The usual wi-fi, inbuilt SD card reader, livecam etc.
  • Money shouldn't be…

Good morning - I am sending my daughter on a tour of Spain for two weeks. Apart from paying for her cell phone to be useable in Spain, and ATT is not cheap, can anyone share with me what cheap telephone options are available to her there? She will need to call/be called to/from the USA - i.e. me the father! I have given her a Skype account for use when near a WiFi point, but still would like to know she can use a phone anywhere.

Grateful for any tips etc.

Rory

Hi All,

I am getting really excited about going on my BIG adventure and had the following simple questions as to what I should take to stay connected?? I would love any help/advice here:

  1. What do most people take to stay connected with home - an iPhone, touch, iPad, laptop or rely on local computers in hostels? I presume email and Skype is the main forms for communicating?
  2. If I take my iPhone, do most people buy a local sim for the area they are in? What is the main purpose of this sim, to…

I have a job that can be done 99% online, so I'm making the leap to become "location independent" -- but I'm stuck on the 1% that can't be done online:

A few times a month, I'll need to receive phone calls from US clients. My clients will not want to pay long-distance, schedule times for me to call me, Skype, or do any of that. They just want to call another US number so we can talk on the phone. Any digital nomads out there know if there's a service where I can get a US phone number (or…

Hi, i know there are a few posts on here regarding iphones and i have learnt some info but i am meeting a friend from home in Chiang Mai, Thailand who is bringing my iphone 3gs for me. It's already unlocked so i am now researching what kind of sim card to get and how to use the phone abroad.

It seems i have a choice between using different local sim cards in each country or an international sim card. I would want to turn off data roaming and use free wifi spots for internet but if i got stuck…

Anyone know which is the best free voice translator? Vocre seems to be very good but in spite of the fact that it says it's free on the iPhone app store, once downloaded it's only free for a limited period.

This is what I think should happen.
1) Plug iPhone in
2) Wait for it to show up in iTunes
3) Click on sync
4) Wait, wait, wait - until it's one 6/6 updates

Done!

However since my laptop got re-built/formatted - it doesn't work. I downloaded a new iTunes and hoped it would work like above as before but no...

Now it gets to 3/5 but doesn't complete the rest. However let's assume that's because I've not ticked it to sync anything because it want to overrite my iPhone with a blank iTunes. I can't…

Even though I have been to VN many times, I still look forward to going again this Nov. The last two times in VN, I have not had good luck with the ATM's. In 2010, I had lost my card somehow, didn't know it right away, and in the meantime, someone withdrew about 1500 use before I could get it blocked. Don't know how they did this as you need the pin no. too. Last year(2011), I thought I was being very smart. I set up another acct with a different debit card and very little balance($300). After…
