That must be one heavy bag you have with all those electronics chillipepper. But I guess if you're staying in places for 6 months at a time it might be worth it.

If you take a tablet/ipad, you could keep in touch with people back home using wifi, read books (including your travel guides), use it as an alarm clock, use it as a back up camera, listen to music, watch movies, and you can even download an app that uses the flash as a torch....

I'm still looking for the app that means i can use it as a hair straighener ;-)

I use my mobile phone as a torch - if ever needed (rarely).
It is bright enough to see around 5-6 feet, on the screenlight.

Kia Ora.

Nope, Cusco was 2008 / 09, I had a whole pile of stuff with me then as was on the road for 18 months and needed cold / hot weather kit.

ATM i have my 40L Pack under 11kgs....just sent a parcel home yesterday so was nice to lose some weight and gain a little room :) real happy with that

I also carry the M sized Tumbuk2 Messenger bag to hold all the goodies. I'm pretty happy with the weight of that as well right now: -

MBA - 1.08kg
Kindle - Less than 6 ounces
iPod Classic - 140 gms
Camera - 215 gms inclu spare battery and memory Card - case will be around 75 gms.
Head Amp Pico Slim - 275 gms
Ultimate Ears RM IEM's - Negligible...well under 100gms
Associated cables and Chargers etc - maybe 300gms?

Not too much of an effort to lug around....apart from the MBA, it's all very small stuff that weighs very little.

Good luck with the Hair Straightener App.

The electrical stuff I pack for my travels includes:

iPad (with a couple of books uploaded ready to go, much better option than lugging two/three books), iPod (earphones), mobile phone, chargers, torch and adapters.

Hair dryers and straighteners can all stay at home. They take up too much valuable space!

I don't really go for long trips with work etc ..

So I take:
3.2" cellphone (Nokia) not a huge user, but just read the news and the weather that's about it maybe the odd email and text and call. I don't do much so at times I may just roam. The Nokia Maps works without 3G.

No mp3 player etc .. b/c I have my cellphone. I have used low cost airlines which I didn't pay for inflight entertainment so I can listen to music and play the odd game and no luggage.

No laptop. Too heavy for me. I usually take 5kg all up that's about it. No cargo. I take one set of clothes, hand towerl, 100ml containers or are they 50ml and pour my shampoo and soap into them .....

My dSLR is a 2004 one, since I take cityscapes when it is dark. A Gitzo traveler tripod. 2 portable lenses or I may take a Nikon FM2N (film camera manual focus which is smaller without the right hand grip thingy) with 2 small primes, ie, 52mm filter threads.

Re: the Kindle thingy. I prefer real books. Also don't forget the Kindle charger ..

I just buy a book at the airport and I may just leave it on the seat for others to pick up ....
My guidebook (LP), I take it or I photocopy pages. Electronic books just don't work. I also pick up a map at the visitors centre.
