I am trying to store some pictures from the desktop of my laptop onto a jump drive to take to a kiosk to print out. My computer is saying that the device (I have tried 2 different ones) is not recognised and when I click on my Computer, there is no drive designated on there for it. I have used these devices several times on this computer and have never had this problem. This computer has been acting strangely for the past few days and so I am wondering if there is something wrong with the USB ports/slots on the side of my laptop? Any suggestions?

What is the operating system, and exactly what do you mean by "has been acting strangely"? And what event/s occurred prior to it behaving strangely? (eg: new software installation, a piece of malware being quarantined, a windows update, strange popups, any kids been using it...)
If you go to system>hardware>device manager and right click on the USB device concerned (down the bottom, usually, and you might have to have a search to see which one it is) then select "properties", then Uninstall, then reboot windows it will reinstall the driver for that device, which may work. (depending on the answers to the above.)
