hi. i've searched the forums, but i haven't found any specific info to answer my question. i will be traveling for most of next year and i'm trying to to figure out my strategy for music during the trip.
i already own an 8 GB nano and i was planning on taking it, along with a charger, of course.
but a friend just suggested another possible strategy: to take a non apple mp3 player (preferably one that runs on AA batteries), upload my entire itunes library onto an online server (amazon, carbonite, etc) bring a usb cable and simply access my itunes library at cyber cafes around the world. that way, i'mnot limited tothe same few GB's of music AND i don't need to carry a charger.
any thoughts?
will my friend's idea work?
thanks for any and all feedback!

Not really that practical, MP3 are quite large and to download new music would take a lot of time particularly over a slow internet cafe link and some internet cafes may block MP3s from being downloaded...
Why take the music with you on a USB key? I have a 16 Gb USB key which was £89 (actually it was free as work paid for it!) - that link is obviously the UK but I'm sure you'd get them elsewhere, not sure about "Thorn Tree World" though... ; ) (check your profile)

thanks, scaryant! sounds like a great idea. but i have onemore question: will i be able to use my nano with your strategy of bringing a usb key? aren't ipods locked for use with a single computer/itunes?
and btw, i have no idea how my profile came up with "thorn tree world" must be a default setting. for the record, i live in new york city.
thanks again!

Thorn Tree World is the default. Good idea to fill out ones profile, especially when asking for help. Often one solution does not work in all countries.
No problem ; )
"aren't ipods locked for use with a single computer/itunes" - that's true, but it's only iTunes that enforces that security not the iPod itself. If you use other software to update your iPod you can take songs from other peoples iPods without losing all the songs.
If you download and install PortableApps on your USB key, you'll not only be able to use Firefox and other applications more safely than using an internet cafe PC, you'll also be able to install portable winamp which comes with iPod support.
You could also try Yamipod which can be run from the USB key or even from your iPod itself.
Cheers
