Hello all,
I am getting ready to leave on my first adventure, excited and to be honest pretty nervous about it all.
I will be traveling to Guatemala for spanish language school and then overland by bus to Belize up to the Yucatan peninsula, across to the pacific coast traveling up to mazatlan then over into Baja, or at least that's the plan such as it is.
My question is that I will be hosteling and busing my way around and feel that an I pad would be a very useful tool, what is the general consensus on traveling with these devices, I am doing this on pretty short notice.
many thanks
Andrew

Take it, you won't regret it.

My only recommendations would be:

1) get a solid case to ensure it doesn't get damaged (eg. broken screen)

2) make sure you use a secure password to make it difficult for people to hack into the unit &

3) turn on the "find my ipad" option in the settings tab. if the unit gets stolen, you can trace it reasonably quickly or, put a message on the unit to help you get it returned (eg. phone me on xxxxxx cell number)

Its all down to personal taste I guess but to me that is just more stuff to break, loose or get stolen. I certainly don't feel that one would have improved my recent trip, I just would have spent more time glued to a screen and not meeting people. Don't get me wrong I did use the internet but limiting myself to the odd hour in an internet cafe probably enhanced my experience rather than spending hours in a hostel staring at the screen. There is no right or wrong I think, just what you fancy.
