with the tour de france in central london.
will be shooting with my D70 and 18-200VR lens.

I'm not sure what its like in London to photograph cycling, but I've found a prime lens or smaller zoom lens much better for some mountain bike shots I've done.

I'd be trying to get close to the road, probably outside of a corner as the inside you won't be able to lean over to photograph, saw one guy got cleaned up last year.

Despite the temptation to use Tv to set a fast-ish shutter speed, if its bright enough (hmmm London, maybe not), i'd use Av to control DOF.

Also try panning shots to blur the background at a slowish shutter speed of say 1/60th.

Its a time trial so you'll get 150+ cyclists ride past so you'll get that many goes of trying something different each time.
