I got a compact waterproof camera as a gift for Christmas and was just wondering if anyone could recommend a wrist strap or something to wear while snorkelling.

You may want to do a little research on your particular model, some cameras are not as waterproof as you may think. Check reports from users rather than publicity info from the company.

I just checked the reviews. But i think its more do with the battery compartment being a bit crap to close. Everyone did say though they had them replaced very quickly and it wasnt a problem. Mine will be well in warranty. I have a better camera im taking as well so i might as well risk trashing it or I would never really use it.

My Fujifilm XP20 camera came with a "float strap", which has been very useful. Basically, if I had to drop my camera when in the water, it would not go sinking all the way to the bottom to be lost forever.

Im sure that all the brands are pretty much the same, so just ask the place where you bought the camera for a float strap. Its worth the extra cost.

The float strap that came with my camera is a "Finepix WP Float Strap". Those are the only markings on it.

Unfortunately, when taking my camera snorkeling, after a while of intensive use for 3 days, moisture droplets started to form on the inside of the screen. Since then, the moisture has dried up and the camera looks fine. I always made sure that the battery cover was absolutely and completely closed.

My guess is that these cameras are only meant for "light" underwater use. I got some amazing photos and videos tho!

my sister uses a carabiner and clips her camera's wrist strap to her bathing suit strap. she may have added an longer wrist strap to the camera but it is close enough for her to use and she doesn't worry about losing her grip on it.

(as for the camera, I am pretty sure hers is an Olympus waterproof camera of some sort. Takes pretty decent pictures. My dad had one too - until he forgot to close the battery door properly. oops.)
