Wanting to take a fully charged Toshiba Tablet on the plane and watch some movies. Does anyone know if these are allowed to be used while during a flight?

If your tablet has "flight mode" or similar, which prevents it from trying to communicate with the outside world, it should be no problem. People use laptops on planes, too. Norwegian, flying within Europe, now has plenty of planes with WiFi even. Which is cool.

I had asked as my spouse will be carrying the Tablet and had heard something that unlike laptops, the Tablets were questionable. I will double check with him on why he thinks there is an issue. Thanks, and so far, your answer makes sense! Yes, and very cool on the wifi issue. Even busses/trains now have them. WOW! :)

yeah essentilly its like a phone.. i know that my tablet had airplane mode, as done my phone. but i have flown with airlines in the past that wont allow either even if they are on airplane mode. on most airlines it shouldn't be a problem

if it has a phone chip, you need to flight mode it otherwise it is a keyboardless laptop

We had thought we heard on the news that there were exceptions on being able to use the tablet and that even with airplane mode we couldn't use it...

OP - that's nonsense. Tablets are fine to use during flight (not take off and landing) with flight mode enabled. My recent trip SYD-SIN-HKK there were more tablets in use on the plane than laptops.

That's crazy talk ... everyone uses tablets on the plane. Airlines are even giving them to Pilots for all their documentation.
